Matchmaking using databases and AI
Many people struggle with finding an ideal partner for themselves. Dating apps are time-intensive, over-reliant on aesthetics, and full of other well-known problems. Meanwhile, professional matchmaking services are available, but they're expensive and not as widespread.
I have a way of doing this better using AI:
- A person interested in finding a partner signs up on the website, fills out a detailed profile, what they're looking for and shares any information about them that they'd like to share. Users would be encouraged to fill the forms out thoughtfully (using prompt design, minimum requirements, advice, motivational comments and incentives). They can link their socials and part of this form could be auto-populated.
- As more people do it, the database becomes rich. This database is kept private with the company – thereby ensuring that personal data is not available to the general public to view and giving the company a proprietory edge.
- An AI is evaluating all new entries / updates and trying to find compatible matches. The AI system would do this partly using conventional code and similarity indexing, and partly based on LLMs processing a user's open-ended responses.
- When a match is found, an email is sent to both sides with non-identifying information about the partner and how strong the match was. If both sides confirm their interest, then for a small fee from each side, you can find the partner's contact info and reach out. The running costs of this app are low, so the fee could be low too.
The system is a bit like conventional matchmaking system, except that now, with LLM being as cheap as they are, we can not just process natural language, but also use it to make evaluative decisions on who would be a good match.
There are many advantages of an app like this. For example:
- it saves time (finds people automatically)
- it considers all provided information (it doesn't simplify you)
- people don't judge you based on a photo (like on Tinder-like apps)
- you can say anything about yourself and set whatever criteria for others you find important
According to my surveys, many people are unsatisfied with current dating apps and think this might be an interesting way to resolve those problems. They seem to be willing to try this new thing and even pay for it.
I thought a lot about this idea (there's a lot more details here). I was even working on it, but had to stop just before launch due to personal reasons. Feel free to comment asking for anything like more ideas, marketing strategies and more.
Excited to discuss this in the comments!
I have been passionate about AI and algo dating for a long time. A year ago I was thinking about how to improve dating apps and these two passions of mine converged when I realized that AI models can be used in this way.
